Venegade is a free directory of independent, founder-run brands. We collect as little as we can, we never sell it, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
Who we are
Venegade (venegade.com) is run by its founder. Questions about privacy, or any request below, go to [email protected]. A person reads every email.
What we collect
When a brand applies
The answers on the application form: brand name, store link, where you’re based, category, social handle, your name, email address, your brand’s story, what makes your products good (kept private), up to five product links, and your eligibility confirmations. While you fill it in, the form saves a draft in your own browser so you can come back to it; that draft never leaves your device until you press submit.
To stop spam we also keep a one-way scrambled fingerprint of the internet address the application came from (not the address itself), and the form runs Cloudflare Turnstile, a spam check that doesn’t use advertising cookies.
When an approved brand uses the brand portal
- Your sign-in email. We email you sign-in links instead of using passwords, and keep a sign-in cookie in your browser for up to 30 days.
- Your brand page: logo, cover photo, story, founder name, location, the year you started, where you ship and your social handles, if you add them.
- Your products. With your permission we read the public product information from your store (names, descriptions, prices, photos, sizes, colors, stock and links) and keep it up to date. You can also add products by hand, from a spreadsheet or from links, and upload your own photos. We resize uploaded photos and remove the photo data and location embedded in them.
- A record of changes and store syncs, so we can fix problems.
Shoppers
Shoppers don’t need an account. When someone presses View product we count the click against that product for that day, without recording who clicked. Like every website, our host (Cloudflare) processes internet addresses and browser details to deliver the site and protect it from attacks.
Cookies
We use one cookie, only for brands and our own staff who are signed in. We don’t use advertising cookies, analytics trackers or social media pixels.
How we use it
- To review applications and decide who can list.
- To run the directory: show brand pages and listed products, and keep prices, photos and stock in step with each brand’s store.
- To contact you about your application or your shop (approvals, sign-in links, problems with your listings). We don’t send marketing email.
- To keep the site safe and working, and to meet legal obligations.
What is public
For brands that are approved and listed: your brand page and the products you choose to list. Your email address, your private application answers and anything you haven’t chosen to show are never public.
Who we share it with
We don’t sell personal information, and we don’t share it for advertising. We use a few companies to run the site, and they only process it to provide their service to us:
- Cloudflare: hosting, database, photo storage and the Turnstile spam check.
- Resend: sending our emails.
- Proton: our email inbox, where applications and messages arrive.
- Etsy: if you connect an Etsy shop, we read your public listings through Etsy’s official API.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect people from fraud or harm.
How long we keep it
- Applications: while we review them, and up to two years after a decision so we can handle reapplications, unless you ask us to delete yours sooner.
- Brand accounts, products and photos: while you’re listed. If you leave, we delete them within 30 days.
- Sign-in links expire after 30 minutes (7 days for the first link we send an approved brand). Sign-in cookies last up to 30 days.
Your choices
You can ask us to show you, correct, export or delete what we hold about you, or to stop processing it, by emailing [email protected]. We do this for everyone, wherever you live, usually within a week and always within 30 days. Brands can also change most of their information themselves in the brand portal.
Children
Venegade isn’t meant for children. Brands must be run by adults, and we don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Security
The whole site runs over an encrypted connection. Sign-in links and cookies are stored only in scrambled form, so a copy of our database couldn’t be used to sign in. Only the founder can see applications.
Where it’s stored
Our providers store and process data in the United States and other countries where they operate.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change matters to approved brands, we’ll email them before it takes effect.
